Thibaut de Champagne (1201-1253), King of Navarre, is the
best-known of the late trouvères, with over forty surviving
songs in dozens of sources. He was a major part of the politics
of his day, an era during which the Champagne fairs were the financial
pivot of Europe, and took part in the 6th Crusade. He left a wide
variety of song forms, on almost every major topic of the day.
