This recording contains most of Lassus's collection of "Mermann-Madrigale" printed in Nürnberg in 1587, dedicated to the Bavarian court physician Thomas Mermann (at the time when Lassus had suffered his famous stroke). They are sacred madrigals, but not to the extent of the composer's dark final cycle, the Lagrime di San Pietro.
