Comments:
Information from CD & Jorge Salazar.
Francisco Guerrero (c.1528-1599) was one of the leading Spanish composers of the 16th century. He worked in all vocal forms of the period, and this program features motets in 4, 5, 6, 8 & 12 voices.
Although Morales & Victoria occupy positions in more notable generations framing Guerrero, it is Guerrero's music which may well have been the high water mark of Spain's golden age. Until recently, however, his work has been very under-published.
