This is a complete recording of Dowland's Lachrimae publication (1604), featuring seven pavans on that famous theme, and scored for the unusual combination of five viols and lute.

Dowland's literary style of composition for lute & consort was practiced by other English composers of the era, most notably Anthony Holborne (c.1547-1602) who wrote a large number of technically similar consort works:
