Recorded: January1992
Timing: 69:15
A quite substantial selection of both single and double choir pieces by Monteverdi, mainly taken from the Selva Morale of 1640, the Messa et Salmi of 1650 and Giulio Banchi's Motetti libro primo of 1620, performed by a moderately large choir. Most of the works are relatively straightforward, without virtuosic solo parts. The litany was probably written for one of the four feasts specifically dedicated to the virgin Mary in Venice.
Performers: Choir of Trinity College, Cambridge (8S, 4A, 5T, 5B) directed by Richard Marlow; Paula Chateauneuf - Chitarrone; Angela East - Viola da Gamba; Elizabeth Bradley - Violone; Silas Standage, Philip Rushforth - Organ.
