Texts in Latin and English; Notes in English, French and German

The forty motets contained on these two CDs can be considered Schütz' Spiritual Madrigals and a counterpart to the Secular Madrigals of Opus 1; they are among his most expressive works. Dedicated to an imperial official and with texts from a popular Lutheran prayerbook of the time, they show no clear adherence to any particular confession. As often with Schütz' collections, the motets were written over a period of time and were not planned as a set.
Because of the range of the alto part, the motets were performed with Rogers Covey-Crump (lower lying parts) and Ralf Popken singing the alto part.

Weser Renaissance Bremen: Mona Spägele - Soprano; Ralf Popken - Alto; Rogers Covey-Crump, John Potter - Tenor;
Peter Kooij - Bass; Thomas Ihlenfeldt - Chitarrone; Manfred Cordes - Organ and artistic supervision.
