Pierre-F. Roberge

This recording helps to blur some of the artificial distinctions created today between "simple" and more elaborate polyphonic settings, and between sacred and profane music. These types of music were generally performed in the same places and by the same people. This program is especially valuable for its illustration of some of the more straight-forward polyphonic sacred settings of the era, especially as they relate to some of the more usually performed genres.

Recordings devoted to more extended sacred cycles by a couple of the composers featured in the present release:

I Fiamminghi - V
Brassart: In festo Corporis Christi
Capilla Flamenca - Dirk Snellings
Ricercar 233362
Arnold de Lantins: Missa Verbum Incarnatum
Capilla Flamenca / Psallentes
Ricercar 207
