Sébastien Le Camus (c.1610-1677) was one of the most prolific songwriters of the later 17th century in France, and one of the dominant composers in the short-lived air de cour genre. The present selection is taken primarily from his posthumous collection of 1678, the last printed collection of serious monodic songs in France. Although an instrumentalist by profession, Le Camus's airs are some of the most emotional and textually based.
Little is known of the composer Estienne Lemoyne, also represented here.
