Among Renaissance composers, it is sometimes said (by Gustav Reese and others) that the composers who wrote their greatest music in the large-scale mass genre were Ockeghem, Obrecht & Palestrina, whereas others were at their best in other forms. On top of this observation, Obrecht's Missa Maria zart is the longest mass setting of the era, making it of unique interest.
