This is Ensemble Clément Janequin's second program devoted to settings of Pierre de Ronsard (1524-1585). Whereas Anthoine de Bertrand (c.1540-1581) certainly wrote the most famous and voluminous settings, the present program provides an opportunity to hear some of the breadth inherent to the settings of the time. Composers represented are François Regnard, Guillaume Boni, Philippe de Monte and Jean de Castro (c.1540-c.1600). Among this group, only de Monte is a widely regarded composer of the era, although he is best-known for his Italian madrigals rather than his chansons.
