A very fine performance and recording of Schütz's Christmas music. Some instrumental pieces are interspersed, but since Schütz did not write any purely instrumental music, some works by Gabrieli, Weckmann, and Usper were selected. The Gabrieli canzoni are particularly appropriate, since Schütz was a pupil of Gabrieli, and in fact, received his ring upon the master's death in 1612.
