& Merulo to such end-of-an-era writers as Picchi & Strozzi.
The Gabrielis really open the era of what we now think of as
cathedral organ sonority. A dedicated recording:

And a recording devoted to Merulo, one of the first to write organ
masses:

- Frédéric Muñoz / Grupo Vocal Gregor - Dante

Naxos 8.553334
And a recording devoted to organ music of the earlier part of
this era in the ricercar genre:
- Ricercari
- The Art of the 16th Century Ricercar in Italy

Another Italian organ collection, focusing on the Southern
school:
- The Heritage of Frescobaldi
- Andrea Marcon

Finally, a more general collection which moves into Southern German
music:
