The focus of this set is Dufay's isorhythmic motets, with those
of Machaut, as well as some non-isorhythmic motets of Dufay, included
as context. Some motets are performed in more than one version
(noted as v.1, etc.) CD3#5 is considered a "doubtful"
work by Dufay. As noted in the contents, this set also includes
the Gregorian chants on which the motets are based, when appropriate.
The items to which they refer are noted parenthetically. The liner
notes are superlative, featuring texts with translations, facsimiles
of originals, historical notes, etc. They total 180 pages. The
production of this recording was connected with the publication of
new scholarly editions for these compositions.
