Andrea Gabrieli (1533-1585) was, despite obscure circumstances,
one of the most important early composers for keyboard. At this
time, intabulations of vocal music still formed a major part of
the repertory, although they were becoming increasingly personal.
Most of his music appeared only in posthumous publication, as given
above. Of course, his nephew Giovanni is far more famous today.
