Giovanni Battista Buonamente (1595-1642) was one of the most important composers of the generation which pioneered the modern, violin-based instrumental idiom during the early Baroque era. The present program is drawn from Buonamente's fourth (1626) and sixth (1636) books of instrumental music. Books four through six survive intact, while book seven survives in part.
