This is the first recording devoted to the music of Costanzo Porta (1529-1601), one of the last great Italian composers in the Renaissance style. He was born in Cremona and subsequently studied under Willaert, and in his later years was influenced by the polychoral style of the Venetian school. The Missa quattuor vocem is attributed to Porta by Siro Cisilino and others, though the attribution is not certain. It is a parody mass most likely based on a secular model, but as yet this model remains unidentified.
