The Capricci fatti sopra diversi Soggetti, et Arie (1624) actually continues Frescobaldi's Recercari of 1615. Although the names might suggest wildly different things to us today, the continuity is perhaps aided by mentioning the thoroughly contrapuntal English "fancy."
The work also pays a conscious debt to Luzzaschi in the introduction, as well as showing some similarities to contemporary Portuguese compositions by Manuel Coelho.
