Along with the set of six sonatas for violin and harpsichord obbligato (BWV 1014-19), this set also includes the two sonatas for violin and basso continuo (BWV 1021 & 1023). An appendix is provided to reconstruct all three versions of the Sonata No. 6 (BWV 1019).
Together with part of the Flute Sonatas BWV 1030-35, and the Viola da gamba Sonatas BWV 1027-9, these sonatas form Bach's output of trio sonatas with obbligato keyboard parts.
