This recital is more than merely welcome after the magnificent first. The two rarely-recorded motets are striking, and there are several other tracks of high interest. Performance style has changed somewhat with the first, and if anything is more poignant. It is perhaps overly pensive, though, and not direct enough. However, it would be difficult to match the impact of this ensemble's first program of Machaut songs, and so this program will surely continue to play second on that account. Nonetheless, it is of high quality and easily recommendable.
