Gopal Krishnan, a student of Ravi Shankar, is one of the few performers on the vichitra vina (a fretless plucked string instrument, played by rolling a ball along the strings). It is analoglous to the Carnatic instrument, as played so well by Ravikiran.

The present recording, featuring dhrupad-style alaps makes an interesting example, although is perhaps not as compelling as some other recitals on the better-known sitar or sarod.
