Information from CD.
This program consists of settings of texts by the Spanish poet Lope de Vega (1562-1635), along with some related material. Composers represented include Mateo de Romero (d.1647), Sebastian Aguilera de Heredia (c.1565-c.1620), Juan Cabanilles (1644-1712), Manuel Machado (c.1590-1646), Francisco Correa de Arauxo (1575-1654), Francisco Guerrero (c.1528-1599), Juan Blas de Castro (1560-1631), and José Marín (1619-1699). The songs originate primarily from the theater, whereas the instrumental variations are largely arrangements from contemporary organ publications.
